Technology Basics

Kids and Computers:
Learn what makes the computer tick and how to perform basic computer operations.

Computer Fixing-Patches, Viruses, and Stuff:
Take steps in securing your information and ensuring your computer is “patched” and what that really means. Explore viruses, malware, spyware, and trojans. Learn how to set up individual accounts.

Tech Talk:
Learn about many computer acronyms and terms. Go from the basics of how the Internet works to navigating the World Wide Web.

Beyond Computers:
Beyond the computer there are cell phones, xboxes, PlayStations, PDAs, flash drives, iPods, cameras, bluetooth and many more. Explore the technology that is on the market, how these devices are used, and some steps parents can take to keep children safe.

Social Networking:
Social networking sites are extremely popular. Learn the steps you can take to minimize the risks when your children participate in online activities.

Protection and Electronics:
Learn about tools to protect you and your family as you explore the online world. Explore filters, key loggers, cookies, activeX, history files and tools to set up a website filter on your computer.

Securing Wireless Connections:
Is your wireless connection secure? Learn some of the simple steps you can take to detour unauthorized use of your wireless connection.

Communication with your Child

Internet Safety:
Learn how to explain Internet safety to your child, how to practice safe surfing, and how to set house rules on using the Internet.

Parent-Child Communication:
Danger, sex, and safety don’t make the top 10 list of topics that parents like to talk to their kids about. Internet safety is about all of these things. This class will get YOU past the awkward stage.

Victims:
Get the startling facts on how many children get solicited, and learn the “grooming” process used by predators so you can protect your children.

Dangers of the Internet:
Would you know an Internet predator if you came across one? Get the profile of a predator and tools to teach your child about the power of the Internet and how to use it safely.

Tainted vs. Forbidden Fruit:
The old saying “curiosity killed the cat” does not have to apply to your child. Learn how to warn your kids about Internet dangers in a way that makes them cautious, instead of curious.
